ESE Scholarship Policy

Scholarships are available to students in accordance with the terms set out in this policy. The Bursar’s Office approves scholarships and agreements concerning the number of scholarships that will be awarded annually. ESE reserves the right to suspend the award of scholarships at any time.

1 ELIGIBILITY

Students requesting financial aid for any given academic year on any programme will be considered for a scholarship based on their academic achievement, financial need, personal essay, leadership and community service.

In order to qualify for consideration of an ESE Scholarship the applicant must:

1. have been accepted in an academic programme;
2. submit a Scholarship Application Form and supporting statements (see below);
3. demonstrate a financial need to receive financial aid.

2 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

A student seeking a scholarship must supply the data and documentation requested on the Scholarship Application Form. This includes:

1. A personal essay of a minimum of 500 words which shall include a description of academic achievements, educational and professional goals, why the student needs/deserves this scholarship.
2. A statement of financial need.
3. A copy of the student’s, transcripts and diploma (if applicable).
4. Two references from persons most familiar with the student’s background and abilities.

Completed applications are to be submitted to the Bursar Office.

If a student misrepresents information or data on the application they may be deemed ineligible for a scholarship.

3 DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Students can apply for a scholarship up to 90 business days prior to the start date of the programme of their choice. Nonetheless, all scholarship application forms will be reviewed in the same order in which the Bursar’s Office receives them. All students are strongly encouraged to submit their application as early as possible or at least six months before the start date of their programme.

4 REVIEW AND APPROVAL PROCESS

For any review, approval and award to occur, the application must go through the following process:

1. Required documents are received on or before the stated deadline.
2. A designated assessor checks to see if application is properly completed and the student satisfies the scholarship eligibility conditions.
3. If the application is complete it will be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee comprised of the Bursar, the Director of Admissions, and the Academic Director for review and consideration.
We utilise a rating system for applicants. Therefore, certain factors are assigned numerical ratings in order to help prioritize the applications. These factors include the applicant’s financial profile, extracurricular activities, potential for success, and reason(s) for requesting the scholarship. The Committee evaluating the scholarship applications will rate the application using 5 as the highest rating in each category and 1 as the lowest.
Applicants may be interviewed in person or by telephone.

5 VALUE OF THE AWARD

The majority of ESE scholarships are awarded to deserving students in the range between a minimum of 5% to a maximum of 50% of the tuition fee of the chosen programme.
When merited by the financial need of the applicant, financial support beyond the above-mentioned percentages may be awarded, up to a maximum of 100% of the tuition fee of the chosen programme. The Bursar will approve these cases.

6 LETTER OF APPROVAL/DECLINE

Students will receive written notification regarding the decision concerning scholarship application and the terms on which the scholarship has been made (the scholarship agreement).

7 CONTINUATION OF THE AWARD

Students must meet all requirements outlined in the scholarship agreement to continue as a scholarship recipient. These requirements include:

• Satisfactory attendance in classes
• Good Standing: Students must meet any academic, financial need or other conditions which are provided for in the scholarship agreement.
• Maintain an average grade of 65% or higher each semester

8 STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

9 APPEALS

Unsuccessful applicants wishing to appeal should write to the Bursar within ten (10) working days of being notified of the outcome of their application stating clearly the grounds for appeal.

Appeals will only be considered where there is evidence that a procedural irregularity has occurred in processing the application. Appeals against the School’s judgment of the merit of an applicant against the published criteria will not be accepted.
